Jack McGee is a Playwright and Creative born and raised in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. He is a founding member of Squash Co. Arts Collective and not in any way related to Greg McGee.
After graduating with a Master of Creative writing from the IIML, Jack quickly received a double nomination in Playmarkets Playwrights B4 25 competition, for his plays Music Sounds Better Out Here and The Adults Are Talking. Both plays premiered in the first half of 2022 at BATS theatre, produced by Squash Co.
Both plays quickly received second seasons later that year, with ATC Youth producing a Semi-Staged run of The Adults Are Talking in Tāmaki Makaurau and Squash Co. touring Music Sounds Better Out Here to Otautahi.
Jack’s work has been praised by critics as cutting, exceptionally clever, and punchy. He frequently writes about themes of masculinity, complex relationships, and pop culture.
