Kathryn Burnett

Kathryn is an award-winning screenwriter and playwright who has worked in the television/film/arts industry for over 20 years. In 2022 she enjoyed a sell-out premiere season of The Campervan at the Pumphouse Theatre.  She  has significant television writing credits including Under The Vines, My Life is Murder and The Tender Trap for which she won Best Drama Script at the 2021 NZ TV Awards with co-writer Riwia Brown. She also won Best Screenplay Award (with James Cunningham) at Show Me Shorts Film Festival 2020.

Kathryn produced her first play Mike & Virginia (co-written with Nick Ward) in 2011 as part of the International Comedy Festival and it was subsequently produced in Wellington at Circa Theatre (2013.) Mike & Virginia won SWANZ Best Play in 2012. 

Her play Bowled Over was produced in 2013 by the Auckland Theatre Company, as part of the Auckland Arts Festival. In 2016 Burnett took her turn in the spotlight, as one of nine women telling stories from their own life, for comedy show Dialogue: Mum's the Word. In 2017 her play The Caravan was shortlisted for the Adams NZ Play Award and is currently slated for production with Tadpole Productions.

 

When she isn't writing, Kathryn also works as a script consultant and screenwriting teacher.
