Matthew J Saville

 

Matthew J Saville is a writer, director and actor of Kiwi and South African ancestry. 

Matthew´s first play The Boxer successfully toured throughout New Zealand and earned him a nomination for best new writer in the 1993 Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards. His second play Kikia te Poa received critical acclaim in Wellington, Sydney and London.

He is a graduate of the University of Otago (BA), Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School (Bachelor of Performing Arts) and Victoria University of Wellington (Masters in Screenwriting.)

His television credits include helping develop The Insiders Guide to Love for Gibson Group and writing for Shortland Street and The Blue RoseHe created the children's show Kune's Kitchen and directed and wrote short films Hitch Hike and Dive, which won Best Short at the Show Me Shorts Film Festival. His film The Bollywood Boys was selected for The New Zealand Film Commission´s First Writers Initiative. His feature film, Juniper, released in 2021, stars Charlotte Rampling.
