Uther Dean

Uther Dean (he/him) is a writer, performer and director in Tāmaki Makaurau, from Pōneke. As one of the co-founders and co-creative directors of critically-acclaimed theatre company My Accomplice, he’s presented work in all of Aotearoa’s major centres. His storytelling show Everything is Surrounded by Water won Best Solo at the New Zealand Fringe Awards. His plays have been performed across the country. He has written for television (Shortland Street, Power Rangers), completed a feature film commission for Gibson Group. He has by lines in The Listener, Sport, The Pantograph Punch and The Spinoff. He once wrote haiku so hard that the Haiku Foundation tried to start a fight with him. He has a film podcast (Shite and Sound), an audio drama podcast (The Witching Hours) and a Doctor Who/relationship podcast (The Slow Path). He has a review newsletter at bit.ly/utherlives. He also works as a comedian and is appropriately ashamed of it. He’s a bit of an acquired taste.
