Notes on the arts

Surveys the history of public funding of the arts in New Zealand since the launching of the National Orchestra in 1947. Examines the funding of the QEII Arts Council, and its distribution of those funds. Looks at the Council's membership and policy, and at support from local bodies and from commercial interests. Briefly comments on the current state of the theatre, opera, ballet, music industry, fine arts, and literature. Ends with some questions.
