Theresa, who is the daughter of a former sanatorium patient, and Len, who is a former borstal boy, arrive separately at the site of a TB sanatorium and borstal. They are met by Hannah, who is staying at the Christian community that now occupies the property. Theresa learns of her mother’s and aunt’s lives at the sanatorium. We shift between present day scenes and scenes when the institutions were in operation, and eventually the time periods co-exist. We learn that Hannah has been sent to En Hakkore to address her parenting and substance abuse issues. Len, who had a strained relationship with his own mother, then demands that she enter the isolation cells with him and listen to the story of the borstal which has a traumatic effect on him. The play concludes with Theresa and Len having fulfilled their quests.
