Max has locked himself in his hotel room in New York on Christmas Day. His boyfriend Julian tries to get into the room, but Max refuses to let him in and says that he’s going to stay in the room forever. They banter through the door for a bit until Julian tricks his way into the room. Max’s continuing grief for his brother and sister comes out here, and it’s paralysing his ability to go through his day-to-day life. He feels as though he is the one that should have died and doesn’t understand why he lived and they didn’t. Through talking (and arguing) with Julian, Max realises that his life does have worth, and as the bells ring in Christmas, he resolves to go on with his life and actually live.
