Dracula

A group of actors encounters the text of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, warts and all. With campy fervour, they start telling the tale. We meet the characters of the book, starting in the first act with Lucy Westenra and her suitors. After a mysterious shipwreck near her holiday home, Lucy sickens and dies. However, Professor Van Helsing knows the truth, and reveals her to be a newly created vampire. In the second act, Van Helsing and the suitors’ quest for the truth lead them to meet Jonathan Harker, who met the mysterious Count Dracula in Transylvania. Sharing their stories, they realise that Dracula must be the one who attacked Lucy and transformed her. After Dracula attacks Jonathan’s wife Mina, the investigators chase him back to his homeland where they end his reign of terror. All of this is set within the framing narrative of a group telling the tale, with singing and narration by the three emancipated brides of Dracula.
