Campbell Smith (1925 – 2015) Obituary

With the death last year of Campbell Smith, Playmarket lost its oldest client. Campbell was also among the agency’s most long-established figures, having been represented by Playmarket since the early 1980s. He was one of only two clients (Roger Hall the other) to have been awarded an honorary doctorate (in 2012 by the University of Waikato) and also became in 2012 one of only two clients to have had a volume of his Collected Plays published (James K. Baxter the other).

JESS SAYER WINS THE 2015 BRUCE MASON AWARD

The Bruce Mason Playwriting Award was presented to Jess Sayer at the Playmarket Accolades held at the Hannah Playhouse in Wellington on 15 November 2015.

The $10,000 cash prize recognises early success in the career of the winning playwright and is designed to encourage their continued exploration of the theatre medium.

JEAN BETTS AWARDED THE 2015 PLAYMARKET AWARD

The Playmarket Award was awarded to Jean Betts at the Playmarket Accolades held at the Hannah Playhouse, in Wellington on 15 November 2015.

The $20,000 cash prize recognises a playwright who has made a significant artistic contribution to theatre in New Zealand.

ARTHUR MEEK AWARDED SCOTLAND PLAYWRIGHTS RESIDENCY

Playmarket, New Zealand’s playwrights service organisation, in partnership with Creative New Zealand and Playwrights’ Studio Scotland, has awarded Arthur Meek a three month playwriting residency in Scotland.
