Poata Alvie McKree

Poata Alvie McKree (Ngāti Kahu, Ngāpuhi ki Whangaroa, Yurumein, Barbados) is an interdisciplinary artist and arts therapist. A graduate of the Elam MFA programme and the Whitecliffe MA in Creative Arts Therapy, Alvie writes for live performance and facilitates art therapy groups and therapeutic art and movement workshops.
 
Alvie penned Hine's monologue: he poroporoaki, for ONOa selection of six monologues by Māori and Pasifika playwrights performed at Tahi Festival 2024. 
 
Her first full-length play, The Handlers, debuted at Te Pou Theatre in 2024, and a subsequent production at Kia Mau Festival in 2025 earned New Playwright of the Year and New Aotearoa Play of the Year at the Wellington Theatre Awards, 2025.
She is currently a student of Ken Duncum’s MA Scriptwriting programme at the International Institute of Modern Letters at Victoria University of Wellington
