Shalakazap!

Deep in her den, the MatheMagician practices her ancient and mysterious art. No one has seen her. Her house is buried under all the work to be done: the counting, measuring and calculating; the everyday mathemagical chores people do not believe they can do for themselves. But the MatheMagician is a dreamer, a star-gazer. She longs to have time to unravel the secrets of the universe. Just when the legendary FlabbaFamish – a dangerously hungry monster - is about to come out of hibernation, she goes on strike.

Tyro (the MatheMagician's apprentice) and Fire Chief Fleet turn to the audience to help them work out how to keep everyone safe. Racing against time, they must calculate the stomach capacity of the Flabbafamish, with only the help of a series of riddles from the MatheMagician and an ancient number chart with some of the numbers missing. The task sees the audience actively involved in solving a variety of mathematical problems that surface as the plot unfolds: deciphering a secret code, patterning, completing the damaged chart, measuring the audience and finding a way to weigh the middle-sized child without the help of scales. Mysteriously, as the audience moves closer to a solution, as each piece of the puzzle is successfully resolved, the piles of chores fall from the MatheMagician's house, finally revealing a door... through which the MatheMagician might be seen at last.

This play is a whimsical comedy-adventure, jam-packed with audience participation and mathemagical fun, for ages 5-10.
