Imagines a future in which a far right Government is elected in New Zealand. The play opens on the night of the Freedom Party’s victory. Gerald and Thora Bridge and their neighbour Rose have been watching the results come in. The hosts’ enthusiasm is not shared by Rose, nor by Gerald’s daughter from his first marriage, who makes her appearance half way through the play. Over the following year events unfold which will have a profound effect on all four characters as the country moves from protest to open rebellion.
