In these are emotional times, people are willing to share their real or manufactured pain in public, on television, even in the auditions for Big Brother, in the knowledge that it separates them from ordinary mortal to survivor. The hours of television, film and miles of print that are devoted to negative portrayals of drug use, sexual abuse, prostitution and human suffering, despite their supposed intentions, glamorise the notion of suffering and self destruction. In the pursuit of truth in the media have taken us to levels of fiction that we have never before seen.

Odette is the perfectly packaged sufferer - well presented, articulate and interview ready. The only thing that prevents her from becoming a real star is that she has no problems. Or does she?
