The play is disconcerting from the beginning when it seems to resonate of Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of an Author. We seem to be watching a B&W film with vacuous Noel Cowardesque characters but this is Volcano, Hawai’i, home to Pele and others who seem cliches of their lineage. It is not until we are caught up in strange occurrences that the production snaps and we are jolted into the reality of the actors playing roles.They slip in and out of character in the presence of the playwright.
