Sam Brooks

Sam Brooks is an Auckland-based playwright, journalist and lip-sync artist. He was co-winner of Playmarket’s Playwrights b4 25 competition two years in a row; in 2012 for three plays: Auckland Shakes, Mab’s Room and The Sacred Prodigies and in 2013 for Queen. In 2014, he received a Highly Commended prize at the Adam Play Awards for his play Riding in Cars with (Mostly Straight) Boys and was named Auckland’s Most Exciting Playwright by Metro Magazine. He has had ten of his plays produced at the Basement Theatre, has been commissioned to write a play for the Young and Hungry Festival and been given Creative New Zealand funding to write a play about stuttering.
