Tim Bray

Tim Bray graduated as a Bachelor of Science in 1992 but his first job out of Auckland University was as an actor, and he’s been one ever since. He has since added playwright, producer and director to his CV, without a science laboratory in sight. His passion for many years has been writing and creating theatre for children, and his theatre company Tim Bray Productions drew an audience of over 21,000 people to his children’s shows in 2008. “Tim Bray is creating the next generation of Auckland thespians and their audiences. Take your child to a Tim Bray Production and you know they will have had a rich theatrical experience.” citymix magazine

As a character and stand-up comedian over the years, he has performed at many corporate and private functions throughout the country. His most notable characterisation has been that of Basil in the Faulty Towers Theatre Restaurant show performing throughout New Zealand, with bookings in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain added to the madness.

As well as his numerous plays for children, Tim has written and created three solo shows for adults, Me and My Vice (which toured to the Edinburgh Festival in 1998), The Last Laugh and Foibles, and co-wrote with Susan Battye, an urban gay comedy, Ponsonby Road. Annually he performs in schools and community events throughout New Zealand for a corporate client, performing to well over 50,000 children. “And if Me and My Vice is an indication, there is more great work to come from this man’s exuberant imagination.” NZ Herald review

“Tim Bray is lovely to watch on stage - he is gentle, soft and possesses a childlike beauty that hasn’t been seen on Auckland stages in a while. These stories appeal to the neurotic is us all – and believe me you have to laugh at yourself. Style…well think a cocktail of Woody Allen, Jack Lemmon and Jane Horrocks. A Grey Lynn Seinfeld.” express review on Foibles
