Melisa Martin has been passionate about and involved in theatre of some sort since she was 16.
In 2010 Mel was selected for Playmarket’s Writer’s Retreat. There she completed her second play Barefoot on Queen, followed by a successful rehearsed-reading at The Pumphouse Theatre on Auckland’s North Shore.
In 2012 Melisa was again selected to attend the Playmarket Writer’s retreat where she finished her third play The Last Letter, about a young woman in her 20s dealing with the grief of losing her brother amidst the stresses of normal life, which was shortlisted in 2012 for Auckland Theatre Company’s development series The Next Stage.
Mel has had several poetry performances and readings in Hamilton and Auckland. She has also had works published in various blogs and webzines, The Manawatu Standard, as well as a piece on the Christchurch Earthquake in The New Zealand Herald.
Mel continues to write for the stage and screen.
