The playwright producer relationship
Fifteen years ago Playmarket gathered questions from playwrights for producers, which were answered in 'Playmarket News n.36; Spr 2005 (Return to sender, p.8 - 11, 23). Those responsible for programming seasons at the country's main theatres and/or companies respond to questions about what they look for in local drama, the factors that influence their programming decisions and how playwrights should go about submitting scripts to them. Responding production companies are ATC, Circa, Tawata, Agaram and Prayas, the Court, Q Theatre, BATS, NZ Festival. A range of playwrights who are also producers also respond - Abby Howells, Jo Randerson, Cassandra Tse, Flaxworks.Fifteen years ago participating organisations were: Auckland Theatre Company (ATC), BATS, Capital E, Centrepoint, Circa Theatre, Court Theatre, Downstage, Fortune Theatre, Silo Theatre and Taki Rua.Traces the thematic shifts in both playwrights' questions and producers' answers between then and now.
