Script Assessment

Cindy & Eric Go To Hell, by Thomas Sainsbury

Contact - Jean:-   scripts@playmarket.org.nz

Script Assessment is a straightforward resource open to anyone, and is often our first contact with new writers.  Once we have received your script (email preferably please) and assessment fee it will be sent to one of our assessors and returned to you within four weeks.

The fee is $190 (includes GST).  We also offer a service for $260 (includes GST) providing an assessment and a one hour script consultation, either in person, or via phone or email if we are unable to find someone in your area.

Our assessor will consider the professional potential of the play, and as appropriate, will offer expert advice that will help towards your next draft. Please remember to include a cast list and a brief synopsis with your script.  It would be very helpful if you could also include a covering letter addressing the following questions:-

  • Briefly – what is your play about?
  • Is there a particular issue you would like us to focus our feedback on?
  • What do you think are the play's strengths and weakness?
  • Has your play had a reading or been performed?
  • Are there plans for a production in the pipeline?

- and of course please provide any other information you think may be relevant.

Please note that a favourable assessment and/or the completion of suggested revisions does not automatically lead to Playmarket representation.  We welcome re-submissions of further drafts of the same script but note that these will be charged the same fee.  Playmarket reserves the right to refuse to assess a script (very rare!).

Finally please remember that the assessment is written solely with you, the writer in mind, and intended for your eyes only.  You do not have permission to quote from your assessment for publicity purposes, or to use it as a reference for funding applications, etc.  (NB:- receiving an assessment does not make your play ineligible for any of our other opportunities.)

SO! - if you would like to submit a script, please email/post your script with a letter addressing the questions above to help our assessor, to the address below. Please also send your cheque, or if you prefer direct credit, our details are BNZ 02-0568-0020573-00.  Please let our accounts dept. know if you use this option (info@playmarket.org.nz).

Address for scripts:-  scripts@playmarket.org.nz (or Assessments, Playmarket, P.O. Box 9767, Wellington 6141).

Format:-

When sending us a script, for any reason, we ask you to email them, preferably PDF or Word, to scripts@playmarket.org.nz. If several people have contributed to the script, make sure that all names are credited. Please also ensure that you have included a list of characters with brief descriptions, and a brief synopsis.  While the formatting of your script is entirely up to you, pages should be numbered (it's amazing how many people forget).

Remember to identify your work by putting the title, your name, date and contacts, and, if you like, the copyright sign - (c) will do; or Option g - on the cover of your script.

(While every reasonable care will be taken with hard copy scripts, Playmarket cannot take responsibility for any loss or damage of them. Please only send a copy, with an s.a.e. if you would like it returned.)
