How To License

Okay, you've chosen a play you're interested in doing. Your first questions are probably going to be "how do I get permission to do this and how much will it cost?".

If it is being performed in front of an audience, whether they are paying or not, you must licence the script and pay a licence fee.

If you are performing in class with only the students normally enrolled in that class present OR the piece is being judged as part of a closed examination process, you do not need a licence. These are the only exceptions.

How much will it cost?

Between $60 - $120 per performance depending on how many seats in your venue and what kind of script it is. If you want to do excerpts contact us directly as this is a more complicated process.

How do I get the rights?

Fill in the Online Rights Application Form   or Download the Rights Application Form PDF  and post or email it to Playmarket to secure the rights for production.

BUT don't paint the set quite yet!

Avoid disappointment and wait until you hear from us first, just in case the play is being produced by someone else.

Now we draw up the licence contract and notify the playwright that you are producing their play.

We will post the contract out to you with an invoice for your accounts department.

Read the contract carefully and send back one copy of the signed contract with the advance payment - hold on to a copy of the contract for your files and  the End of Season Report Form - you'll need this after your sell out season.

Present your fantastic production to the applause of your local community - rave reviews follow for bringing New Zealand theatre to the people!

Send in your End of Season Report Form to let us know how you got on, to pay us any extra box office takings and to complete the contractual agreement.

All the best and please let us know how your production goes!
