
Jamie McCaskill - Ngati Tamatera - was born in Thames in 1979. Before getting into theatre Jamie worked as a fisherman. Jamie began his acting career at UCOL in Palmy and has appeared in many plays all around New Zealand (King and Country, Flagons and Foxtrots, Oho Ake, When Sun and Moon Collide). In 2006 he performed at the Melbourne Arts Centre and the Sydney Opera House in the acclaimed Capital E production of Hinepau (based on the novel by Gavin Bishop). Jamie is also a composer and performer in the band Smokey Feel.
Jamies first play was Wassup Bro?, a musical set in the Coromandel which premiered at Bats in 2003. Wassup Bro? went on to win the Hot New Thing award at the Wellington Best of the Fringe awards 2003. The play was directed by Simon Ferry and also had a season at Centrepoint Theatre where Alison Quigan took over as director.
Jamie co-wrote his second play It's A Whanau Thing with friend and fellow writer Kelly Kilgour. The play previewed at the Globe Theatre in Palmerston North then premiered at Bats Theatre in 2005. Jamie co-wrote the music with fellow band member Kane Parsons and both were nominated for Best Composer for the music from the show at the 2005 Chapman Tripp Awards.
Jamie's most recently completed play It's My Party was commissioned by Centrepoint Theatre for the Basement youth company programme in 2006.
Jamie lives in Wellington where he can often be found acting or performing music in the band Smokey Feel.
