Playmarket awards playwrights places annually in Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin and Christchurch. Playwrights' Studio is an opportunity for writers to be guided through a rigorous re-writing process of their work, by a leading dramaturg, and have the opportunity to have their work presented in a professional theatre.
Members will work together in a small studio group over a six month period. They will work with nominated classic and contemporary plays, and each other's work. One on one dramaturgy may also be offered. Writers will then be invited to submit a redrafted work for possible selection in Write Out Loud – public readings of new New Zealand work at professional theatres.
The deadline for applications for 2008 Playwrights Studio is February 16th, 2008.
Playwrights' Studio is open to all playwrights of excellence who have not completed the studio previously.
Application Process: Applications must be made in writing (by email or mail to scripts@playmarket.org.nz phone (04) 382 8462). Please send a letter outlining your experience as a playwright and a draft of a play you’d like to develop. Playmarket members just need to email an expression of interest, with an outline of the play they’d like to work on, or are working on.
2008 Dramaturgs will be announced shortly.
