Scott, Norelle

Norelle has a Bachelor of Arts in English literature and Film Television and media Studies as well as a B.A. Honours (first class) in Womens' Studies from the University of Auckland. She also has a Certificate in Higher Education from Unitec and a Diploma in Acting from Theatre Corporate.

She has lectured on writing for Theatre and Film and television at Unitec, AUT and the University of Auckland. She was The Head of the Directing and Writing Major at Unitec in the School of Performing and Screen Arts from 2002 -2004 and Head of Writing Pathway from 1999-2002.

Norelle has also run numerous Screenwriting Seminars for groups such as the New Zealand Book Council, Greenstone Pictures and The Moving Image Centre. She was the head tutor for The Pacific Writers Workshop with Don Selwyn, training Pacific Writers for film and television funded by Arts Council New Zealand and Te Waka Toi.

Her film and television credits include: The Steven Shuttleworth Story and The Jonathan Sturt Story from the Trulife Stories series, Shortland Street, Homeward Bound, Marlin Bay, Shark In The Park, Gloss, User Friendly (co-writer), Rud's Wife (co-writer with Alison Maclean).

An experienced Script Consultant, Editor and Dramaturg, Norelle has worked on feature films including Cocoon Crash - Feature Film (U.S) 2006, My Linoleum Dream - (NZ) 2006, script edited The Aroha Drama Series 2000 (screened on Maori Television) and the Tala Pasifika Drama Series 1996 (Screened by TVNZ) and was the dramaturg for Manu Rau (Playmarket workshop) and Paper Crane (New Theatre Initiative Workshop).

Grants and awards include her play Lost in a Sea of Women, being selected for development by The New Theatre Initiative (2002), Would I Lie to You? - selected by The British High Commission to represent New Zealand for the British Council New Playwriting Awards (1997), finalist placing for the ADAM PLAYWRIGHTS AWARD 1994 for Would I Lie to You?, finalist selection at the IAWG INTERNATIONAL WRITING AWARDS for CONFIDENCE - Marlin Bay (1993), the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council Individual Writing Award (1985) and residencies at The Mercury Theatre (1985) and Theatre Corporate (1983).

A play about incest. The 4th International Women Playwrights Conference Galway, Ireland. Irish Director and cast.

Arrows and Bows
Commissioned by Juliet Monaghan. Funded by the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council. Directed by Hester Joyce. Previewed June 1991 at the Maidment Theatre. Performed for a season at The Herald Theatre in November 1991.

Oracles and Miracles
Adapted from the novel by Stevan Eldred-Grigg. Directed by Cathy Downes. Oracles and Miracles toured New Zealand in 1990. The nation-wide tour sold out, including return seasons in Christchurch and Wellington.

Peace Play
Written during my time as writer in residence at Theatre Corporate. Directed by Roger McGill. Music by John Gibson. Performed by Theatre Corporates Community Theatre Company. Peace Play Toured the North Island with performances for schools and community groups.
